Do you, a relative, or a neighbor have a physical, mental, or cognitive condition that would require special assistance during an emergency?  This can include situations where someone is on oxygen, has limited mobility, or suffers from mood disorders or extreme obesity.   If so, you might want to register for the Special Needs Registry.  When a storm or other power outage occurs, the Waynesville Police Department checks on the welfare of the citizens registered. The Police will then contact the listed contact person(s) if necessary.  If emergency shelters are established, police and fire personnel will assist in transporting individuals to the shelter if needed.
