NC Green Power Print E-mail

ImageNC GreenPower is an easy and effective way to protect the environment. The program increases the availability and access to renewable energy sources. It is designed to help improve the quality of the environment by allowing North Carolinians to choose cleaner, "greener" energy solutions. By calling the Town of Waynesville and telling us to sign you up for this independent, non-profit program, you will add renewable energy from solar, wind, and biomass to North Carolina's power supply.

NC GreenPower offers two contribution options:

ImageThe first option is designed primarily for residential or small commercial customers. It features energy produced from renewable sources, such as wind, solar or methane sources. Customers can purchase one or more blocks of clean energy for North Carolina. You can make a contribution of $4.00 per block (100 kilowatt-hours of energy).  That 100 kWh is equivalent to the electricity used by a full-sized refrigerator in a month, or equivalent to about 1/10th of a 2,000 sq. ft. home’s monthly power usage.

The second option is designed for large-volume users, but it can be purchased by any customer and features energy produced from a wider range of sources, such as biomass and small hydro, at a price comparable with out-of-state green energy tags. Customers pay $2.50 per block of 100 kilowatt-hours but must buy a minimum of 100 blocks.
