ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL BOARD

Appointed on the basis of interest in public affairs, good judgment, knowledge, ability and good moral character to handle issues dealing with alcoholic beverage control.

Three (3) members appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Board members serve three (3) year staggered terms which expire August 15.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesdays of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the ABC Board Office located at 273 Walnut Street.

As a quasi-judicial Board, the Board of Adjustment hears and acts upon appeals from, and reviews any disputed order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Zoning Manager. The Zoning Manager may call upon the Board to interpret any requirement of the Land Development Standards regarding planning and development. Requests for variances and special use permits are heard and decided by this Board.

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT

The Board of Adjustment is composed of ten (10) members as follows:


Three (3) regular members and three (3) alternate members who must reside within the corporate limits. These members are appointed by the Board of Aldermen.

Two (2) regular members and two (2) alternate members who must reside outside of the corporate limits but within Waynesville's Land Use Area. These members are appointed by the Haywood County Board of Commissioners.

Board members serve three (3) year, staggered terms which expire May 31.

Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday evening of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Town of Waynesville Board Room located at 16 South Main Street.

To improve the visual quality and aesthetic characteristics of Waynesville

The Commission is composed of nine (9) members who must be residents of the Town or reside within Waynesville's Land Use Area. Special training or experience in a design field, such as architecture, landscape design, horticulture, city planning or a closely related field is necessary. Appointments are made by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Commission members serve three (3) year, staggered terms which expire March 1.

Regular meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Town of Waynesville Board Room located at 16 South Main Street.

FIREMEN'S RELIEF FUND BOARD

To oversee the Firemen's Relief Fund.

The Board shall be composed of five (5) members, two of whom shall be appointed by the members of the fires department who are qualified as beneficiaries of the fund, two of whom shall be elected by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, and one of whom shall be named by the State Commissioner of Insurance.

Board members have no specific terms; they are appointed as needed.

Meetings are called as needed.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

To safeguard the heritage of Waynesville by preserving any property that is deemed to be of special significance in terms of its historical, architectural or cultural importance. To promote the use and conservation of such property for the education, pleasure and enrichment of the residents of Waynesville.

The Commission is composed of nine (9) members who must reside within Waynesville's Land Use Area. A majority of the members of the Commission shall have demonstrated special interest, experience, or education in history, architecture, archaeology, or related fields. Members are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Members serve four (4) year, staggered terms which expire January 31.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Town of Waynesville Board Room located at 16 South Main Street.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission serves as a liaison between the Town Government of Waynesville, its Parks and Recreation Department, and its citizens. The Commission advises the Director of Parks and Recreation on business matters such as department goal setting, construction projects, department policies, community proposals, and the overall recreation services offered to the Waynesville community as a whole.

The Commission is composed of eight (8) citizen members appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Members serve three (3) year, staggered terms which expire September 30.

The Commission meets once per month, on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center located at 550 Vance Street.

PLANNING BOARD

The Planning Board serves as an advisory board to the Board of Aldermen and Board of Adjustment. The Board makes studies of areas, prepared plans, develops policies, ordinances and administrative procedures, making recommendations to the Board of Aldermen and/or Board of Adjustment regarding these issues.


The Planning Board is composed of nine (9) members.

Five (5) members must reside within the corporate limits. These members are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Four (4) members must reside of the corporate limits but within Waynesville?s Land Use Area. These members are appointed by the Haywood County Board of Commissioners.

Board members serve three (3) year, staggered terms which expire May 31.

Regular meetings are held on the third Monday evening of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Town of Waynesville Board Room located at 16 South Main Street.

WAYNESVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY

To deal with issues regarding the Waynesville Housing Authority.


The Waynesville Housing Authority is composed of six (6) members appointed by the Mayor per North Carolina General Statute 157.5.

Members serve five (5) year, staggered terms which expire September 30.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Waynesville Towers located at 65 Church Street.
