Inspection Department hours are from 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Inspectors are available from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. for plan review and code questions.

When a person, firm or corporation erect, construct, enlarge, install, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building, structure or service system within the jurisdiction of the Waynesville Inspection Department they must first apply for and obtain a permit. (G.S. 143-138(b), 153-357, 160A-417)

What information do I need to obtain a permit?

1.  A drawing and description of work to be performed (not needed for manufactured housing).

2. Visit the Land Use Department of the Town of Waynesville and obtain a "Land Use Certificate".

3. For a manufactured home you will need a bill of sale.

4. Name and license number of all contractors and sub-contractors.

5. If applicable an approved sewage disposal permit from the Haywood County Environmental Health Office.

ADDITIONS of a room up to 499 sq. ft.: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Insulation, and Mechanical - total fee $115 + $5- Home Owner Recovery Fund (paid by licensed contractor).

- For single family dwellings, business and industrial installations recycle the rate chart for fees.
- For motels, multi-family dwellings, town houses and condominiums - charge per unit - each dwelling.
- For warehouses, storage buildings, recycle the chart at 50% of the chart value.
- Pump Service and Service Changes - $30.00
- Premature call-outs and/or extra inspections - $30.00

Storm damage or acts of God on a service to a house - All fees waived.

NOTE: Contractors with NC State Licenses, but not Town Licenses, must obtain a Privilege License through the Town of Waynesville Tax Collector before beginning a project with the Town of Waynesville.

How do I schedule an inspection?

Contact the Waynesville Building Inspection Office by telephone during normal office hours and every effort will be made to perform the inspection that same day, or the following day.

When may I occupy a building under construction?

After all inspections have been performed and a "Certificate of Occupancy" is issued. The "Certificate of Occupancy" shall only be issued after all federal, state and local laws have been met.
